A 20-year-old Las Cruces man was arrested and charged with two counts of auto burglary, two counts of conspiracy and two counts of larceny Wednesday evening after a resident allegedly caught him breaking into his car along the 2100 block of Rosedale Drive.

LCPD was called to a report of an auto burglary in progress in the 2100 block of Rosedale around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday evening. When they arrived, the car owner reported that he was inside his house when he heard his dogs barking and looked outside where is saw a man crouched down near his car.

The vehicle's owner went outside to confront the man, who, along with another man, took off running down the street.

Police were able to locate the suspect, 20-year-old Sergio Galvan a short while later. The second man involved is still at large and charges against him are pending.

Detectives learned that Galvan and his friend allegedly broke into several unlocked vehicles around Carlyle Drive and Rosedale Drive Wednesday evening. They were able to locate some stolen property at a nearby ditch bank.

Galvan was arrested and booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center. He is being held without bond after detectives learned that he had violated the terms of his probation.
