EPSO make arrest in McDonald's hit-and-run assault

El Paso Sheriff's Office Detectives have arrested 20-year-old Manuel Olivares in connection with a serious hit-and-run in the parking lot of the McDonald's Restaurant at the Horizon exit off of I-10 in Socorro on Sunday morning.

At about 2:15 a.m. on Sunday morning,  28 year old Pedro Mendez Jr., 31 year old Robert Sanchez and 18 year old Chris Avila were in the drive through lane of the McDonalds ordering food. A verbal altercation was started by several other people who were in the parking lot.

The victims exited their vehicle while still in the drive through lane. One of the people involved in the altercation, 20-year-old Manuel Olivares, intentionally struck the three victims with his vehicle .

Sanchez and Avila received non-life threatening injuries. Mendez Jr. was transported to a local area Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

Manual Olivares was taken into custody by Sheriff’s Investigator’s eight hours after the assaults took place.

Olivares is being charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault Serious Bodily Injury. He is being held on $35,000 bond. Additional charges may be pending.
