El Paso, TX (KTSM) — El Paso Police Department Officers have charged a 14-year-old juvenile and 18-year-old Jose Angel Pena in connection with an alleged aggravated robbery of a Family Dollar store on Alabama Monday afternoon.
EPPD say that Pena and the 14-year-old entered the Family Dollar store at 1820 Alabama shortly before 1:00 p.m. Monday afternoon. As the juvenile was leaving the store, he set off the anti-theft alarm and was detained by store employees. Pena threatened the store employees with a knife in order to have them release the juvenile and then drove away from the store in a red 2000 Grand Am with the juvenile.
EPPD Officers were able to catch up with the Grand Am a short distance away from the Family Dollar store. During the traffic stop, police say they located marijuana inside of the Grand Am and on the juvenile.
Police turned the juvenile over to the Juvenile Probation Department (JPD) on charges of aggravated robbery and possession of marijuana under 2 ounces. Pena was charged with Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon and possession of marijuana. He was booked into the El Paso County Jail on bonds totaling $15,500.
