Police identify victim, alleged gunman in eastside murder

El Paso, TX (KTSM) — El Paso Police Department has arrested and booked 25-year-old Alberto Antonio Mendiola in connection with the murder of Anthony Bowler, 30, on El Paso's east side early Saturday morning.
EPPD was called to a home in the 11200 block of Warcloud at 5:28 a.m. Saturday morning to conduct a welfare check on a person inside the home. When Officers arrived, they found Bowler who was dead of an apparent gun shot wound at the scene.

During the course of the investigation, police learned that Mendiola had gone to the home on Warcloud where his estrange wife and children were, along with Bowler. Mendiola was allegedly armed with a rifle.
After people inside the home saw Mendiola armed with a rifle, Bowler attempted to secure the back door of the home, at which time police allege Mendiola fired the rifle and struck him several times, killing him.
Mendiola, along with his estranged wife and children then left the home on Warcloud and traveled to his home located in the 8400 block of Tigres where he was later located by police.
Mendiola has been booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on charges of Murder and Violation of a Protective Order. His bonds total $253,000. EPPD says the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible in this case.
According to his Facebook page, Bowler worked as a massage therapist and was studying business management.
This is the 4th murder of 2014 compared to three at the same time in 2013.
