El Paso, TX (KTSM) — El Paso Police have identified the 18-year-old who allegedly stole an iPad at a crowded west El Paso Starbucks on Wednesday morning as Carlos Guerrero, of west El Paso.
Police say that Guerrero walked into the Starbucks at the corner of Mesa and Sunland Park just before 9 a.m. and ran off with an iPad 5 with a detachable keyboard. Several customers inside of the Starbucks alerted others to the theft.
Many customers inside the store attempted to stop Guerrero before he ran out of the store, but were unsuccessful.
Julio Diaz, who was sitting by the exit at the time of the alleged theft was able to chase Guerrero outside of the store and recover the iPad and keyboard and was also able to take the keys to Guerrero’s motorbike according to witnesses on the scene.
That didn’t stop Guerrero from attempting to leave the scene though. According to police, another group of Good Samaritan customers were able to chase Guerrero down and bring him back to the Starbucks where they turned him over to officers with the El Paso Police Department.
Guerrero was arrested and charged with theft over $500 and less than $1,500 from an elderly person over 65. His bonds totaled $2,500 and he was able to post bond early Thursday morning.
