EPPD arrests four for alleged organized criminal activity
El Paso, TX (KTSM) — Four El Pasoans have been charged with engaging in organized criminal activity (EIOCA) casing bodily injury (CBI) and with a deadly weapon.
El Paso Police began investigating a incident that occurred January 9, 2014 at the El Aventurero Bar, located at 247 S. Zaragoza in El Paso's Lower Valley. Police were called to the El Aventurero Bar just before midnight and discovered that a fight allegedly broke out at the bar between 33-year-old Raul Lopez and two men.
The fight escalated and Lopez allegedly pulled out a gun and fired nine rounds at one of the men while 30-year-old Eddie Mendoza and 34-year-old Roberto Mercado Jr. allegedly punched and kicked the other man.
Lopez, Mendoza, Mercado and a fourth person, 39-year-old Maria Hernandez who was allegedly working with the men, all fled the scene. Police investigators recovered shell casings and a gun at the El Aventurero.
Mendoza was arrested and booked Wednesday, February 19 for EIOCA assault CBI and is being held on a $100,000 bond. Lopez, the alleged gunman was booked on EIOCA assault CBI and assault with a deadly weapon, his bond is $165,000. Mercado was charged with EIOCA Assault CBI on a $25,000 bond an Hernandez was booked on EIOCA aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a $25,000 bond.
