A El Paso man will serve ten years in federal prison after a jury convicted him of possession and distribution of child pornography in a Federal Court.

Gustavo Cervantes-Perez, 26, of El Paso was the subject of a search warrant on July 6, 2012. During the course of the investigation, Homeland Security Investigations agents allegedly discovered 156 videos depicting child pornography on Cervantes-Perez' computer.

HSI agents allege that the evidence recovered in the investigation showed that Cervantes-Perez' began collecting images and videos containing child pornography in April of 2006. They allege that he used a peer-to-peer program to search and acquire the images on his hard drive.

Cervantes-Perez was tried and convicted of two counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of receipt/distribution of child pornography on September 11, 2013. He was subsequently sentenced to ten years in federal prison for the conviction.

In addition to the prison term issued in Federal Court by U.S. District Judge Kathleen Cardone on Thursday, Cervantes-Perez was also ordered to pay a $1,500 fine and be placed under supervised release for a period of five years after completing his prison term.
