Deming man, father and aunt charged with kidnapping, raping Arkansas woman
Deming, NM (KTSM) — New Mexico State Police were able to locate and rescue a woman who had been kidnapped from Hot Springs, Arkansas Saturday at a rural residence near Deming, NM.
Authorities learned that a unidentified woman had been kidnapped by her estranged husband and his father and aunt on May 8, in Hot Springs.
NMSP received information from Arkansas authorities informing them of the woman's whereabouts and were able to narrow down her location to a rural road near Deming, NM. Although the woman's exact location was unknown, State Police were able to locate her and her two young sons, ages two and four.
Officers detained 29-year-old Jessie Hopper Jr., his father, Jessie Hopper Sr., 53, and Polly Harper, 60, all of Deming. The woman met with her estranged husband in Hot Springs, after he contacted her asking to see his two young children.
The woman reportedly reluctantly met with Hopper Jr., and when she got into his car, she noticed that Jessie Hopper Sr. was also in the car. The pair picked up Polly Hopper moments later. As soon as they were all in the car, Jessie Hopper Sr. pointed a sawed-off shotgun at her and handcuffed her.
The three drove the victim from Arkansas all the way back to Deming and that's when NMSP allege that the Hopper men both raped the woman and forced her to change her cell phone number twice.
All three have been booked into the Luna County Detention Center on various charges. Hopper Jr. was charged with kidnapping, conspiracy, two counts of criminal sexual penetration, interference with communications and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a household member.
Hopper Sr. has been charged with kidnapping, conspiracy, two counts of criminal sexual penetration, interference with communications and firearms or destructive devices, receipt, transportation or possession by a felon. Polly Hopper has been charged with kidnapping and conspiracy.
NMSP is also cooperating with the FBI in the investigation, and have been notified that the FBI will also be pursuing federal charges.
