Crime Stoppers tip leads to arrest of registered sex offender
El Paso, TX (KTSM) — A woman wanted for failure to register as a sex offender in El Paso was arrested in Jamaica Queens, NY on Monday after a Crime Stoppers tip lead to information on her whereabouts.
Ramona Cadet, 29, was convicted in Queens, NY for a sexual criminal act with a minor under the age of 17 in June of 2008. The Texas Department of Public Safety indicates that her victim was a 16-year-old female at the time of the sexual act. Cadet was sentenced to a conditional discharge of three years.
Cadet was also required to register annually for the remainder of her life as a sex offender. In November 2012, the El Paso Police Department's Sex Offender Registration and Tracking Unit (SORT), along with the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force (LSFTF) conducted a compliance check on Cadet and discovered that she was no longer living at her registered residence. EPPD issued warrants for motion to revoke Cadet's probation and failure to register as a sex offender.
In April 2013, EPPD and LSFTF determined that Cadet was living in New York. On January 6, 2014, the LSFTF received a tip from Crime Stoppers of El Paso as to Cadet's exact whereabouts in Jamaica Queens, NY.
Local authorities were able to coordinate with the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force for the surveillance and capture of Cadet at her home in Jamaica Queens. Cadet was taken into custody without incident and booked into Queens Central Booking where she is awaiting extradition to Texas.
Robert R. Almonte, United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas, said, “I want to thank the individual who called in the crime stoppers tip that ultimately led to the arrest. With this tip, we were able to get another sex offender off of the streets.”
