Las Cruces Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information that helps identify a man who is suspected of sexually assaulted a 4-year-old girl two weeks ago.

LCPD say that two children, a boy, age six, and a girl, age four, were playing behind their home on the 1900 block of Carlyle Dr on Tuesday, March 11, between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. The children then said that a man approached them and asked the two to go with him to the other side of the railroad tacks and into a drainage ditch.

  • Short, medium build
  • Fair complextion
  • Black hair,
  • Noticable scar on face
  • Tape on pinky finger

Once inside the drainage ditch, the man is believed to have distracted the little boy in order to sexually assault the 4-year-old girl. Police say that although she girl was clearly frightened by the events, she did not disclose any physical injuries.

The man is described as short with medium build and a fair complexion. He had short, black hair and a very noticeable scar on his face. He also had bandage or tape on one of his pinky fingers.

A spokesperson with LCPD says police have reason to believe the man may possibly be a transient based on the description given by the children as well as the fact that the man's description matches a person who was seen at an area homeless shelter.

Anyone with information that can help identify the man is asked to contact Las Cruces Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or send a tip via text message to CRIMES (274637), keyword LCTIPS.

The Crime Stoppers number and text messaging services are operational 24 hours a day and you do not have to give your name to collect a reward.
