The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is asking for help to find the driver of a deadly hit and run pedestrian accident that happened in Fabens.

It happened along the 15400 block of North Loop shortly before 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 9, 2012

Deputies said they found Stephanie Avelar, 22, lying in the eastbound lanes of traffic.

Investigators said Avelar was hit by an unknown type of vehicle as she was walking along the shoulder of the road.

Deputy Jesse Tovar with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office said the driver did not stop.

"Special traffic investigators are continuing with the investigation. They haven't been able to recover the vehicle, or the person responsible for striking the victim," said Tovar.

Deputies said the vehicle was last seen traveling towards Fabens, and should have front-end damage.

"Traffic investigators are seeking any information that anyone may have, whether it's a damaged vehicle, or somebody said something to somebody that knows anything about this case, to please come forward," said Tovar.

If you have any information, call Crime Stoppers at 566-TIPS (8477).
