Anonymous tipsters can now send information to Crime Stoppers of El Paso via smart phone app. Owners of Androids and iPhones can now anonymously report the identities and whereabouts of suspected criminals through “TipSubmit.”

The new telephone app uses the phones’ built-in GPS system to auto-locate the nearest Crime Stoppers organization and allows the sender to attach photos and video to the tip.

“This option offers more powerful options than text messaging tips,” says Crime Stoppers of El Paso board president Donald L. Reay.

If the information provided in the tip leads to an arrest, the tipster is eligible for a cash reward up to $1,000 just as when people submit tips to 566-TIPS (566-8477) or online at www.crimestoppersofelpaso.org.

Tips may also be sent by text message. To do so, start your message with CRIME1 (no space) followed by the tip information, and send the message to CRIMES (274637).
