Crime-fighting dog passes away
El Paso, Texas (KTSM) — A former K-9 member of the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Team has passed away.
Brix, a german shepherd who joined EPCSO nine years ago, died Thursday after having been retired for four years.
El Paso County Sheriff's Office says he suffered from an unstated medical condition.
Before joining the Sheriff's Office and having helped nab a murder suspect and a man wanted in an aggravated robbery, Brix had been a member of the U.S. Border Patrol's K-9 unit.
Brix' handler, Dep. Federico Castillo, eventually became his owner.
Brix achieved several certifications, including the North American Search and Rescue K-9 Certification.
