Crews seeding land burned by Silver Fire
GILA NATIONAL FOREST, NM — The change in weather has allowed firefighters in New Mexico to shift gears. No major forest fires are currently burning in the state, so crews are now focusing their efforts on reseeding land burned by the massive Silver Fire.
13,000 acres of land will be seeded in the coming weeks. The grasses being seeded grow quickly, which will help reduce erosion and water runoff. Parts of the burned area have experienced flash flooding during these recent storms.
