Police said the number of crashes with alcohol as a contributing factor in 2012 reached a five year low. 

In 2011, there were 74 crash related deaths and 44 were alcohol related, according to police.

In 2010, there were 62 crash related deaths and 30 were alcohol related, police said. 

In 2009, there were 67 crash related deaths and of those 33 had alcohol as a contributing factor.

In 2008, the city saw 63 crash related deaths and of those 28 had alcohol as a contributing factor.

The Police Department's DWI Task Force and Regional Commands are committed to track down individuals who drink and drive, police said.

“We will continue working together to keep El Paso roadways safe in 2013,” said Lt. Rod Liston, Commander of the Special Traffic Iinvestigations & Driving While Intoxicated Task Force.
