Michael's craft stores celebrated "Random Acts of Kindness" Day on Sunday by giving away free gift cards in their El Paso stores. The idea is that after receiving a free gift card, customers in turn will do an act of kindness for someone else.

It is the first year the store celebrates the occasion. Customers and employees seem to like the idea.

"I think it's a really neat idea because being that Michael's is an arts and crafts store, you get to do a lot of crafts with people, you get to communicate with them and you get to do an act of kindness for somebody else," said Natalie Martinez, a cashier at the Michael's store in East El Paso.

The Michael's store on George Dieter gave away about a dozen gift cards valued between $5 and $25.
