EL PASO COUNTY - It's a job that asks you to put your life on the line, with nothing as far as pay in return.

That's why there's no doubt it takes a special person to be a volunteer firefighter.

But as the county grows, the number of people who are up to challenge has fallen.

That's left the county struggling to meet the demand.

We'll have the full story tonight on News Channel 9 at 5, 6 & 10.

If you're interested in volunteering, Steve Hoeller from Horizon's Volunteer Department says recruits can show up any Wednesday night at 7 to start training with the guys.

Department leaders say volunteers do receive some pension pay. Those who are going to school to be a firefighter can also receive money for college.
