September's heavy rains weren't enough to stop El Paso county commissioners from extending an outdoor burn ban another 90 days.

Commissioners want to prevent wildfires in the county and remind that all outdoor burning is prohibited.

Only activities approved by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality are allowed such as fire fighter training and planting or harvesting agricultural crops.

"We do realize that members of the agriculture community... Some of the farmers we have in the valley have to conduct controlled burns and those are allowable," said Veronica Escobar, El Paso county judge.

The current ban expires January 23 but will be extended another 90 days. It was first issued by the commissioners court in April 2011.
