Council To Vote on Ordinance Amendment
City council voted 4 to 1 today to allow the controversial "domestic partnerships ordinance" to go to vote next week.
Representative Rachel Quintana proposed the amendment, which would "grandfather" in the people who already have benefits but prevent any domestic partners from receiving benefits in the future.
"My intentions were to reconcile the voters and their will when they voted on November 2 and the rights of the city employee to health benefits," Quintana said.
Sonia Brown, wife of pastor Tom Brown and a pastor in her own right, is a strong advocate of the ordinance's original wording. She doesn't agree with the amendment introduced today.
"It insults the voters because we do not believe in domestic partnerships," Brown said.
