El Paso City Council voted Tuesday to stand by its decision to offer health benefits to gay and unmarried partners of city employees.

Council voted 8-0 to delete an ordinance that would have overriden council's decision earlier this year to award benefits to unmarried domestic partners of city employees, both gay and straight.

A group of citizens gathered petitions to place the ordinance on the agenda.

In the past, only City Rep. Carl Robinson voted against the council's benefits plan.

Although he voted with council members, he says his position has not changed.
