The signatures have been verified and now all that's left, is a vote from City Council on whether to change the fee setting authority over the stormwater fee.

The issue at hand is who gets the power to set stormwater rates. Should Council keep it with the Public Service Board or should it be put under the authority of City Council.

City Council will have to take up the issue within the next two weeks. Most of the Council members we talked to, Wednesday, are still leaning towards how they voted in June of 2007.

Mayor John Cook, also a board member on the PSB, wants to change what gets put before Council. He is working with the City Attorney's Department to clarify the language in the stormwater petition.

But those who are behind the petition say they don't need the language clarified. They simply want Council to be accountable for the stormwater fee.
