City Says 5 People Working Security Allowed to Stay

A month after inspectors shut down the Coronado Motel, on-site security guards are being allowed to live in 5 units in the building, a city spokesperson told NewsChannel 9.

The 50-year-old motel has numerous code violations and inspectors say, “the fire suppression, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems are inadequate, unsafe and dangerous.”

In early April, around 50 residents living in the motel were told to vacate the property immediately following the city's inspection.

According to the city, some corrective actions have already been taken.

The motel's owners are required to put a fence around the property and secure and maintain the property.

Our crew went to the motel to find out more about who is living there but the manager asked us to leave.

We're working to find out how the 5 security guards are being allowed to live in a motel that's been deemed unsafe.

The city says the owners plan to sell the property.
