The environment took center stage Friday at the 12th annual Environmental Summit in El Paso. Political leaders, businesses, students, and non-profits sat down to discuss ways to tackle growing environmental problems in the community. Topics included the development of neighborhood watch programs to fight illegal dumping and the impact of city ordinances prohibiting the use of plastic bags. El Paso's dwindling water supply was also a big concern that was addressed.

"With the drought in Texas we have identified that water is a very important resource to the state so we're working with our communities leaders to find reliable sources of water so desalination is something that's of interest to many people," said Ramiro Garcia with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

More than 400 people from Texas, New Mexico, and Mexico attended the summit.
