In time for Fall harvest, a new community garden opened its doors in San Elizario Thursday.

The San Elizario Community Garden, located on 12339 Socorro Road, is a collaborative effort between El Paso County, the YMCA and local community members.

Participants of the garden said their mission was to enhance the quality of life and strengthen community bonds by creating and sustaining an organic garden. They hope the garden will foster environmental stewardship, horticultural education, rejuvenation, and recreation.

The garden will host individuals, families, and organizations and provide an opportunity to harvest fresh produce. The cost for signing up for a plot is $30 per year. The fees will go toward water fees, trash fees, maintenance, and materials that are needed for the garden throughout the year.

For information about the garden or to sign up for a plot, please contact Commissioner Chozet's office at 915-546-2144 or the San Elizario Community Garden at 915-412-6076.
