The City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department has managed the Vista Del Valle Community Garden (9031 Viscount Blvd), since May 2012.

Nerd Wallet, a nationally known consumer advocacy website at www.nerdwallet.com has selected the local Vista Del Valle Community Garden as one of the top cities for Urban Gardening.

The Community Garden was the first in a city park and was established through the generous grant from the Paso Del Norte Health Foundation.

The list below shows the rankings in order:

1 Washington, D.C.

2 Las Vegas, NV

3 Phoenix, AZ

4 Seattle, WA

5 Sacramento, CA

6 Fresno, CA

7 Tucson, AZ

8 Milwaukee, WI

9 El Paso, TX

10 Denver, CO

Data was obtained from the Trust for Public Land and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric.

The study was based on Community Garden plots per 10,000 residents, capital spending on Parks and Rec per resident, the annual percentage average possible sunshine and overall urban gardening score
