For the 4th year in a row, County Commissioners approved a county wide ban on fireworks through July 5th.
Governor Rick Perry now has to approve the declaration of disaster.

Dena Silva has lived in Montana Vista for over 30 years, and says the same concerns are raised year after year.

"Why do we have to fight every year for the same reason?" she said.

"I respect your property, you respect my property. If you want to have fun, if you want to make money there are other ways to make money. Why go to far east Montana and do it?"

She said for those in Montana Vista, this time of year brings the worry of fires.

"Our city, our county is growing so much and we have so many people out there. Lots of homes, Lots of properties...that we don't have the guarantees that we can protect all of this," said Orlando Arriola, fire marshal with El Paso Fire Department.

But for some, fireworks are more than something that is just enjoyed on holidays.

"It has cost, not only tnt but other vendors as well, along with the business people that make money off people coming into these areas, probably an excess of millions of dollars over the years that we've been banned," said Jan Johnson, VP of sales with TnT.

But with 75 brush fires in the past two months and an ongoing drought.. city officials say it's too much of a risk.

"While I'm very sympathetic about the local impact. It's kind of just the nature of the business. There are laws that govern the health, safety and welfare of the industry and those law impact their business and so that's a calculated risk in this industry," said Veronica Escobar, county judge.
