The City of El Paso Public Health Dept. will begin hosting a monthly immunication clinic to curb the spike in pertussis cases in the county, according to a press release sent Monday.

The department will host an immunization clinic every second Thursday of the month, starting Thurs. Sept. 12 at the McDonald's restaurant, 1274 Horizon Blvd., from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“As the incidence of Pertussis in our region continues to increase, we are collaborating with community partners in an effort to make children’s vaccines more accessible by holding outreach events in our community during evening hours,” said Christina Luera, Public Health Nurse.

The number of whooping cough cases jumped from fewer than 10 to 55 from 2011 to 2012. So far in 2013, those cases have already reached 50.

The cost is $10 for one vaccine and $20 for two or more vaccines for TVFC eligible children up to 18 years old.

The flu vaccine will also be available.

Parents and/or caregivers must bring immunications record, a picture ID and documentation of guardianship.

Cash, checks, Medicaid and CHIP payments will only be accepted.
