EL PASO (KTSM) — The City of El Paso is looking to solidify a trade alliance with Barcelona, Spain.
City Council will decide Tuesday whether to approve a memorandum of understanding between the City’s Foreign Trade Zone and El Consorci de La Zona Granca de Barcelona.
The agreement, signed by El Paso Mayor Oscar Lesser, would create an alliance between the two entities to help expand international trade and business.
According to city documents, the El Paso Department of Aviation led a trade mission to Barcelona in October of 2013. During the trip, El Paso officials met with representatives from Barcelona’s free trade zone, known as El Consorci.
Under the agreement, El Paso’s trade zone and El Consorci would maintain marketing materials promoting the benefits of each other’s trade zones.
The parties would also agree to provide links to the other’s website and commit to visits in order to share best practices and exchange information on business trends.
Tuesday’s City Council meeting begins at 8 a.m. at City Hall.
