Monday, July 23, 2012 - 10:15am

The El Paso City Council will conduct a special City Council meeting Monday at 6 City Hall to discuss the El Paso's redistricting options.

Since October 2011, the Districting Commission has held numerous biweekly evening public meetings, along with seven city-wide community outreach meetings. Public participation efforts also included live streaming of all Districting Commission regular meetings to encourage public involvement and comments during the redistricting process.

At Monday's meeting, City Council said they will be considering alternative proposed redistricting plans. Following City Council approval of a final redistricting plan for the City, the adopted redistricting plan will be submitted to the U.S. Department of Justice for preclearance review in order to comply with Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act.
