El Paso City Council chose to delay a vote on an ordinance that would allow cops to impound the cars of uninsured drivers. Council members are asking the city's legal department to review the proposed ordinance.
If the ordinance passes, it gives El Paso Police officers the authority to have your car towed if you can't show proof of insurance. But Chief Greg Allen points out that because of manpower issues, there is no way every vehicle without insurance can be impounded.
Last year, the police department gave out some 51,000 tickets for no insurance to El Paso drivers.
