Stricter enforcement on El Paso streets could leave some drivers without a car. El Paso police say they want harsher punishments for uninsured drivers. The idea was introduced today at city council. It would give officers the authority to impound your car if you fail to show proof of insurance. Right now they can only give drivers a ticket.
Police say last year alone officers gave out more than 51,000 tickets for no insurance. Close to 5,000 of those involved accidents. They say it's a growing problem. City council will vote on the ordinance next week.
