Still no financial backing to reacquiring historical center
El Paso, TX (KTSM) — The process to begin preserving historical items from the Lincoln Center got the thumbs up from City Council Tuesday. The center had been under the threat of demolition by TxDot, which owns the property, to make way for a freeway connector.
Now, they'll be looking at preserving murals and other items from the center. Meanwhile, city leaders are hoping to have talks with the 'Save the Lincoln Center' Group on how they plan to pay for preserving the building. "So if you ask me, is the city going to pay for everything? We're not at that level; we're not at that point yet," City Representative Lily Limon, District 7 of El Paso said.
TxDot was supposed to demolish the center come October but it's been halted until more studies can be done.
