Canutillo ISD will break ground on a new school in Northwest El Paso.

Construction on the new Congressman Silvestre and Carolina Reyes School will start in the Cimarron Subdivision.

The school is the Canutillo ISD's 10th campus, and will house students from pre-kindergarten to eighth grades.

The district is looking forward to serving another part of their community.

"We do have a lot of growth in Northwest El Paso… The City of El Paso and we're very happy to be able to build a community school there to have that neighborhood be a part of our school district in a more meaningful and more significant way," said Spokesperson Gustavo Reveles.

Students in the area who ride a school bus can take up to an hour to get reach their current schools.

"It means that they're going to have a neighborhood school that their kids are going to be able to walk to school. The kids are going to be able to have a building near their homes,” said Reveles.

The Reyes school will be built using funds from the 2006 and 2011 bond programs that were approved by voters in the district.

Construction here will last about 18 months and classes could start in the Spring of 2015.
