The Canutillo Independent School District just announced they will terminate their Superintendent’s contract and suspend him without pay.

The decision did not come easy, the now former superintendent hugged board members and wiped away tears after the decision passed late last night. It took hours for the board to decide not to renew Doctor Damon Murphy’s contract which was set to expire in 2014.

This decision came after auditors found that during the 2010 through 2011 school year a group of more than 60 sophomores, who were in the limited English proficiency group, were bumped up to the 11th grade halfway through their sophomore year.

By doing so, the students would not have had to take the mandatory TAKS test. Internal auditors say superintendent Murphy ordered Canutillo’s High School principal to move these students up.

"I believe we're all human beings and especially our board has a huge heart for this community and it was a tough decision to make and like I said in the past, and I'll say it today and I'll say that in the future we're going to make the best decisions in what's in the best interest of our kids and our students,” Board President Armando Rodriguez said.

So the board terminates the superintendent for cause & then hugs the cheater & one parent tells the board to treat him fairly!!! He did not treat the students that he cheated of an education fairly! Fire the cheater with no severance pay. Pay him his regular salary up to yeterday & be gone with him. If I was on the board I would sue him for his pay from the time the cheating started. The nerve of him to say that he was not aware of what was going on! The bum & Garcia belong in the same prison!
