Church epicenter of measles outbreak in Texas
Fort Worth, TX — Measles is making a resurgence, some 159 cases documented this year in the U.S., and the biggest outbreak recently is tied to Eagle Mountain International Church in North Texas.
The mega church near Fort Worth is the epicenter of the outbreak. Health officials say the outbreak is blamed on a church visitor who traveled overseas, then returned to handle non-vaccinated children at the on-site day care and interacting with other members.
Terri Pearsons is the church's pastor and daughter of televangelist Kenneth Copeland, who has been critical of vaccines in the past, suggesting a link to autism.
Church officials say they're now urging members to get vaccinated which Dr. Nancy Snyderman stated, "The best way to protect your child from measles and potential complications including death is to get your children vaccinated."
