CANUTILLO - Charges are pending in a Canutillo crash that killed a baby.

El Paso County Sheriff's Deputies say 59-year-old Maria Honesto drove an SUV that veered into oncoming traffic and crashed into a car.

Honesto is in critical but stable condition after undergoing surgery this past weekend.

The driver of the car, 24-year-old Amanda Sanchez, is in stable condition.  A passenger was recently released from the hospital with minor injuries.

Honesto's 9-month-old grandson, Emilio, was unbuckled and died in the wreck.

First let me me say, That baby was not abandoned. He was well loved by his mother. He was left with his grandmother while she went to work to provide for him. This was a tragic accident, no one should judge or make assumption about what happened. Please pray for this family ad they grieve for the loss of this young life.

Why the hell was the baby not buckled in? I'm sure she had her seat belt on right?! I only hope and pray that the baby died instantly and didn't linger in pain.

No, she didn't have her seatbelt on either. But it's not just the fact that the baby wasn't buckled. it's the fact that he was in a bouncer and not a carseat. Maybe she just lived a block away. maybe she had a seizure and that's why she rammed into oncoming traffic... There's a lot of "maybe" in this case. Maybe the mom abandoned him with the grandma like many others do and she really had no means to take care of him.We really don't know. We should just pray for this family at this moment.

This person killed her grandson by her wreckless and CARELESS behavior, and should be held responsible by sendeing this criminal to jail for manslaughter.

Be careful not to judge so readily, it can happen to "any" one of "us"! God Bless this family.

hope you are CAREFUL every moment of your life, nobody is, accidents happen and only God in his eternal wisdom knows why things happen.

no, not everyone is careful 100% of the time, BUT not buckling in a 9-month-old baby, which is the LAW is careless, thoughtless, and stupid.

My prayers go out to this family during this tremendous loss and pain.
