Central Texas artist arrested in connection with Prada Marfa vandalism
WACO, TX (KTSM) — The Texas Department of Public Safety arrested a Waco man Tuesday afternoon in connection with the vandalism of Prada Marfa, the art exhibit located in Valentine, TX.
Waco resident Joseph Magnano was arrested Tuesday in Wichita County. A Marfa Public Radio report indicates that Magnano was reportedly still incarcerated on a $20,000 bond.
Magnano reportedly operates under an artist moniker of "9271997." In the days following the incident at Prada Marfa, the moniker was reportedly traced to other instances of spray paint vandalism.
Magnano was also featured in a Waco Tribune article in January, where Magnano said “I like the feeling of a work in progress. No one will see it at that stage ever again.” At the time of the article's publication, Magnano was working on a large piece featuring a scene from the West Texas mountain desert near Marfa.
A Texas visual art magazing, Glasstire reported that Magnano was expected to post bail late Wednesday afternoon.
