Cell phone versus landline in 911 calls

A growing number of people are using their cell phones to call 911. According to the FCC that number could become a growing challenge when determining the caller's exact location.

A landline gives operators an exact location while a cell phone can only give the operator geographical coordinates based on the nearest cell phone tower.

The FCC is making strides to remedy these sorts of challenges. Cell phone companies have bench markers they must meet over a period of six more years to provide an accurate location in the event of an emergency.

Experts advise to give the operator your exact location and your cell phone number just in case the call gets disconnected.
