Students at Coronado High School were the ones asking the questions Thursday night and they're the one who wrote the questions as well.
Barbara Carrasco is the Republican candidate. Her opponent, former City Rep. beto O'Rourke, defeated incumbent Silvestre Reyes in the Democratic primary election earlier this year.
Only one Republican has occupied the District 16 seat since it was created in 1903.

"In the spirit of bipartisanship, willing to work with anyone anytime anywhere, who will help move this community or this country's agenda forward," said Democratic candidate O'Rourke.

"My platform is unity, I have worked and continue to work with Democrats even in El Paso," said Republican candidate Carrasco.

candidates were asked what they believe the role of the government is... their opinions on the role of the government... and whether they believe marijuana should be legalized.

Carrasco and O'Rourke will debate twice more, according to their websites, the last one being Wednesday, October 24th at Burges High School.
