LAS CRUCES, NM -The string of episodes that led up to the death of one person started here on Sunny Lane.

Las Cruces police said there was bad blood between 21 year-old Jeremy Martinez and 19 year-old Michael Hahn.

"That caused 5 people in a Chevy impala to go to a mobile home off of Las Alturas and at about midnight last night or sometime shortly before then. One of the occupants of the Chevy Impala threw a piece of a cinder block through the real window of a Volkswagen Jetta," Dan Trujillo of the Las Cruces police said.

According to police, Martinez, the owner of the Jetta chased the impala for almost 5 miles to University and Valley drive when the Impala spun out of control right in front of the Ramada Palms Hotel.

"The sole occupant of the Jetta then got out of his vehicle and started firing shots at the fleeing in foot the fleeing victims," Trujillo said.

All five people in the car started running, then police say Hahn and Martinez got into a fight and Martinez shot him right in front of the hotel property.

"He died rig there in the roadway," Trujillo said.

The other victim, 19 year-old Policarpio Padilla, kept running. Hotel staff says their security guard found him lying here, right in front of the hotel's front doors.

"And one of the other victims who was shot started running off towards the hotel and collapsed and that person was subsequently airlifted to University Medical Center," Trujillo said.

Police say the driver's side of the impala was sprayed with bullets, but no one else in the car was hurt.

Another passenger of the car held Martinez to the ground until police arrived to arrest him.
"We're pretty sure we have the right parties involved," Trujillo said.

Martinez is being held without bond at the dona Ana County Detention Center.

The manager of the Ramada Palms Hotel says the front doors were locked during the incident,  but the hotel hasn't had any problems.
