Friends of Juana Muniz came together today to mourn the tragic passing of their dear friend. While some gathered at a neighborhood church to raise money for her funeral expenses, others honored her memory at the very place where she lost her life that fateful morning.
Twenty-five year old Juana Muniz was killed in a car accident early Monday morning in East El Paso while driving at the intersection of Zaragosa Road and Gateway East with her boyfriend, 26 year old Fernando Rodriguez.
Earlier this afternoon, friends and neighbors of Juana held a fundraiser at San Elizario Catholic Church in the town where she lived. Community members came by to drop off donations for Juana's funeral expenses.
About 12 miles North of the church fundraiser, a large group of friends payed homage to Juana around a makeshift memorial with candles, pink flowers, and an 8 piece mariachi band. Friends of Juana told Newschannel 9 that a few months ago, Juana had posted this message on her Facebook page:
"When I die, I want a big party with a lot of tequila, and a lot of pink roses everywhere. Oh and mariachis.."
Juana's loved ones say this was the type of person she was -- a fun-loving, energetic girl.
Juana Muniz left behind a legacy of love and happiness. She is survived by a young daughter.
