Five million people suffer from Alzheimer's in our country. Those numbers are expected to rise. So can we do something now that can help avoid or delay this disease?

There's a new study that is exploring the benefits of music, both listening to and playing an instrument, in protecting against dementia.

Studies that have already looked at how intellectual and physical lifestyle factors that can help stave off cognitive decline but the researchers are particularly excited that they may have pinpointed just how much playing a musical instrument can help.  They have identifyed that it could delay those symptoms for about five years.

Getting a better understanding of Alzheimer's is essential because the statistics are truly scary. The number of people with the disease is expected to triple by 2050. so clearly a problem that researchers hope to get more answers to before it's too late for many.
