Brain Activity Higher in 'Freestyle' Rappers
A new study revealed unique brain activity among rappers when they 'freestyle' or improvise lyrics.
Researchers used MRI machines to scan the brains of rappers as they performed both rehearsed and freestyle songs. During the freestyle rapping, researchers noticed increased brain activity in areas linked to motivation, language, emotion and action. There was decreased activity in areas that play a more supervisory or monitoring role.
