Las Cruces Police arrested a man suspected of physically assaulting his pregnant girlfriend and preventing the woman from leaving her home.

Javier Jesus Marquez, 30, was arrested Tuesday evening and is charged with one count of false imprisonment and two counts of battery against a household member.

Shortly after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Las Cruces Police responded to the woman’s residence on theCorbett Drive after her 7-year-old daughter climbed out a bathroom window, went to a neighbor’s home and asked that they call 911.

Detectives learned that at around 4 p.m., Marquez arrived at his girlfriend’s home but she refused to answer the door because he was making threatening comments. At some point the woman went outside to meet with Marquez. As his girlfriend began walking away, Marquez grabbed and threatened to kidnap her.

The woman escaped and ran inside her apartment where her two children, ages 7 and 4, were inside. Marquez continued to make threats and at one point forced the pregnant woman into a kitchen counter while he tried to take away her cell phone.

Shortly thereafter the woman was allowed to go check on her children. When she did, she told her 7-year-old daughter to climb out a bathroom window and seek help.

The girl’s mother did not suffer any major injuries during the incident.

Officers located Marquez as he walked away from the residence. Marquez was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center .
