Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was unarmed when he was captured last Friday. Two officials briefed on the Boston investigation tell CNN no firearm was found in the boat where he was hiding.

Authorities had said in a criminal complaint there was a shootout between the 19-year-old and police. Tsarnaev is still hospitalized and facing charges in the marathon bombings.

His older brother Tamerlan died after confrontation with authorities.The body of the 26-year-old is in the custody of the Massachusetts Chief Medical Examiner. The cause of death has yet to be determined.
