The tornado in Moore, Oklahoma left devastation in its wake and Borderland residents are coming together to help. Organizations throughout El Paso and Las Cruces are asking for supplies, money, and most importantly man power.

El Paso's Salvation Army and Scottish Rite are among many organizations doing their part. "We need to build a team, we need to get that team trained," Major Mike Morton, the Area Commander for the El Paso's Salvation Army told us.

They are also looking for volunteers who are physically able to donate one to two weeks of their time in disaster areas."We're trying our best to get these teams prepared so that they can go and help," Morton said.

Other groups are also donating their energy towards relief efforts. Such as the El Paso Community College's Student Government Association. Their first donation on Thursday were boxes of jeans that will be driven by a donated truck.

"I just use it for shows but I thought that this is more important than a show so might as well use it for something. So that's good for everybody," Jose Alvarado said. Alvarado and his wife will be making the more than 700 mile trek to Moore. "Instead of going to vacation, might as well use it for this," he said.

Alvarado says the fuel costs alone will be a thousand dollars but he says, it's worth it. "We can help people that are in need right now and maybe we can get the community of El Paso to come out and help them out in Oklahoma," Alvarado explained.
