Winds of up to 70 miles-per-hour are expected to hit parts of the Borderland beginning early Tuesday morning.

"It's scary because we lost our apartment. We don't have anywhere to go so we're going to be out in the elements tonight," said Maria Hurtado.

Both she and her husband are homeless and will have to brave the wind and cold.

By Monday night other El Pasoans were also learning about the windy forecast.

“I didn't know about the wind. I haven't done anything to prepare. I'll bring in plants and bring in my little girls' toys," said parent Marco Murrieta.

He plans to stock up on flashlights and batteries in case the wind knocks out power.

"We see power outages when there's high winds," said Teresa Souza, spokesperson for El Paso Electric.

She says maintenance crews have been alerted of the high wind warning and are prepared to respond to any weather related power problems.

You can report any power outages by calling 877-3400.
