Border Agents Arrest Driver Involved in New Mexico Crash That Killed Mother and Young Son
EL PASO — Joel Cordoba Lopez, 22, was arrested for his alleged involvement in a deadly car accident that killed a mother and son in Roswell, N.M.
Customs and Border Protection officers at the Paso del Norte Port of Entry arrested Lopez as he tried to cross into El Paso from Mexico.
According to Roswell Police, Lopez was identified as the driver of an SUV that rear-ended another vehicle, driven by Mandy Miranda, 30, on August 5, 2012. Lopez allegedly fled the scene after the accident.
Miranda and her young son died in the crash. Miranda's young daughter was injured, but survived the crash.
CBP officers arrested Lopez and turned him over to El Paso Police. He is now awaiting extradition to Roswell.
