EL PASO - Crime scene tape surrounds a house in the 4600 block of Emory. It's the home of former Ethics Commission Chairman David Chavez.
Police have confirmed that the body of a man was found on Chavez's porch, but they won't say who the man is. All they have said is the man died of a gunshot wound, and they do think it was suicide.
Neighbors are filled with questions and say word is spreading that Chavez may have killed himself. Newspapers are piled up at the end of his driveway, and we have not been able to contact Chavez or his attorney Theresa Caballero all day long.
As you may remember, Chavez was recently arrested on suspicion of sexual assault. According to the arrest affidavit, the 15-year-old victim says Chavez began sexually abusing her when she was only 10 years old. She claims the abuse continued until last May, and she says Chavez had sexual relations with her about twice a week. Her allegations shocked people who knew him.
"I've known David for 40-plus years. I mean we've never been real close but, I've never known david to do anything violent, " a neighbor said.
Since his arrest, a new allegation surfaced against Chavez. Police would only say it's criminal in nature. Caballero maintains her client is innocent.
Now as police investigate the body found at Chavez' West El Paso home we are all left with more questions then answers.
We'll continue to follow this story.
