Blind 4th Grader Heads to China for Stem Cell Treatment

A local fourth grader is getting some much needed support from his classmates as he prepares for a trip that could allow him to see for the first time in his life.
Alonzo Facha, 10, was born with a condition called Optic Nerve Hypoplasia, which means he has been blind since birth. This Saturday, Alonzo is embarking on a trip of a lifetime. He is headed to China, where he will spend five weeks getting a series of stem cell treatments.
The total cos is about $40-thousand. His parents have taken a loan out on their house to pay the bill, but now his fellow classmates and teachers at Caroll T. Welch and other schools in the district are stepping in to help. So far, $1,700 have been collected to help Alonzo's family with the cost of their trip.
If you would like to help, donations can be made at Bank of America under the Alonzo Facha Treatment Fund.
